Last year, the Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (NYPCO) performed a medley of Korean pop music at Esplanade’s Yfest and a video of the performance garnered over 250,000 views on the internet within a month!

This November, NYPCO returns to bring their K-pop hits to the Esplanade Concert Hall. Be treated to K-pop songs by groups such as DBSK, 2AM, SNSD, T-ARA , IU, BEAST, JYJ and more—specially arranged for a Chinese Orchestra!

Formed 15 years ago, NYPCO is a 155-member strong Chinese Orchestra helmed by conductor Mike Chiang. The group constantly breaks out of the traditional modes of Chinese music with a diverse repertoire featuring a range of genres that include Chinese and Japanese pop, and Western classical.

Performance is on Sunday, 27th November, 5pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall. It will be a 1 hour 30 min concert without any intermission.

The ticket sales will be handled by SISTIC and is priced at $15.

Open House 2010 is from 7 - 9 January 2010! In preparation for this, there will be additional practices on 7, 8 January 2010 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, and 9 January 2010 at 10am. All the practices are compulsory, and BE PUNCTUAL. Sectional Leaders, please remind your members again during sectionals.

The Orchestra will be performing on 9 January 2010, whereas the Percussion Ensemble will perform on 7 to 9 January 2010. Please be properly and neatly attired in Green CO shirt, dark coloured jeans and covered shoes.

What you all want/desire for is finally HERE! A group of year 1s have organized the NYPCO Camp 2009 and the details are as follwed:

Everyone is ENCOURAGED to attend the camp to get to know more about your friends in CO, and see the crazy and fun side of them! ALL ALUMNI MEMBERS & INSTRUCTORS ARE INVITED TO OUR CAMP TOO! :D

The camp will be a very bonding and fun-filled camp, so dun miss it! Other than Qing Gong Yan, there will be a Christmas Gift Exchange, and Graduation Day for Year 3 members! For the Christmas Gift Exchange, each member is to bring a nicely wrapped gift, cost within $5.

Note: Please buy something NICE, MEANINGFUL etc for the gift exchange ok! We dont want to give the gift recipients an unexpected "surprise"! =P

Dear all!

First and foremost, thank you for all your efforts and time in preparation for the Annual Concert at SCH! Great job yea! Not forgetting our dedicated alumni members, thanks for coming back to perform with us.

Next, my deepest and most sincere gratitude to Mr Mike Chiang and his fellow team of instructors! Without them stressing and drilling us for the past few months, we couldnt have performed so well on stage!

And yups! Thanks to Mr Tan Kah Yong too, for his wonderful compositions of music, Musique de Cuisine, One Night in Beijing and other pop songs he composed during for us before Beautiful Sunday.

Due to the final semestral exams in August, all practices will stop from 10 August 2009 to 6 September 2009. Practices will resume from 7 September 2009. Practice time will be as usual, 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

As you all know, we are once again invited by Esplanade to perform for "Beautiful Sunday" on 12 July 2009! And this time, we are playing Chinese pop songs! Cool right? LOL! We are also having additional practices once again on Saturdays. The schedule is as followed:

There will be an event "young musician camp 2009" organised by NYPCO on the 15th and 16th June 2009. There will be Secondary School coming down to join us.
The Schools are Beatty Sec, Mayflower Sec and Northland Sec!

On the second day of the event, there will be a concert at 10 am. All the school will be involve in the sectional ensumble. And end with a combine. Each Secondary school will also be playing a few songs for the audience!

Thanks to all for your help and cooperation during Club Crawl 2009 to promote and attract freshies to join Chinese Orchestra! And some of you actually walked around the Sports Hall, and the whole NYP with the holding boards to advertise NYPCO! Really appreciated your hard work!

Next, good job to all the performers for putting us such a good performance for both days. Not forgetting our student conductor-cum-Vice President, Cheng Heng, for conducting and leading the orchestra well during the performance! *clap clap*

HI dear fellow members,

It is probably time to do some spring cleaning to our CO BLOG already. When was the last post updated? Sep 10th by jiawenwen....

December has arrived. Are we satisfied with the amount of things we have done for this year ^^? Annual Concert, Hong Kong Music Festival, Mini Lunchtime Concert, Interviews by Straits Time, Zao Bao, PAP Charity Concert (coming soon..).

I thought that CO have been pretty much progressive and doing well in terms of publicity and we have been exposed to wide variety of music genres too, thanks to our conductor Mr Chiang. =) Of course not forgetting the effort of our current members as well as our LOYAL batch of alumni! Now u see how teamwork gets the orchestra moving!!

I hope this carries on and on... forever. =)

I think we need give a round of applause to our Percussion Team for taking up the challenge to participate in the competition this time round. They have make great efforts and gave their time in for practicing despite having various commitments. **Claps Claps** It is the effort that people will remember. Good Job percussionists !! ^^

please remember to ask your instructors to sign on both the white and pink form before the 2nd last day of each month,

for eg, last day of june is 30th. Instructors have to sign by the 28th.

this is to ensure that your instructor will not get their salaries too late, as NYP's finance dept is abit slow in their processing.

& i think almost all setB's practices have already reached 10 lessons right?

Visit to temple

This saturday, we'll be visiting the temple where Ruixiang's ashes will be placed. If you are interested to go, please inform us as soon as possible. We'll be tagging along with EVCO's bus, thus we need to confirm the number of people going.

We can't stop tragedies from happening, what God wants to take away, what He wants to leave behind. However, as long as we stay strong we are still NYPCO!

This day, we will always remember RuiXiang for his helpfulness, cheerfulness and most importantly his contributions to NYPCO & CSCO. His sudden passing have deeply impact the fellow juniors and seniors of NYPCO. We have lost a good cellist who have shown so much passion towards music.

We grieved for this wonderful man who have always been the motivator of cello section, been a great brother for some of us, a leader and most importantly our dear friend!!

To you RX:

We have always look upon you as a brother, a leader and an adviser. To NYPCO, you are an adviser, a good cellist and the pillar for cello section. Now that you have accomplished what you need to fulfill in this life, it is time for you to rest. It saddens the orchestra but we all will stay strong and accomplish what we have promised to do in Oct. We will not fail you and David!!

Upcoming : Farewelcome Day!

There will be a FareWelcome day for our new members and all current members.

Please note that its compulsory for the new members to attend this day as it will be the official day that you join our orchestra (even though you are in already ^_^)

Date: 17 May 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 9am - Finish (night)
Venue: 9am: Orchestra room
Dinner: BBQ at pasir ris

Most likely, transport will be provided for our trip to pasir ris.

Please inform us if you require any "special orders" for instance if you are vegetarian or muslim so that we can make the necessary arrangements for you.

What we will be doing on that day, would be playing some icebreaker games (usual), and will have interaction sessions with your sectional members and of course, our orchestra members. Do take this opportunity to know as many friends as possible!! ^_^.

All new members will be required to attend 3 days of theory lessons conducted by our conductor, Mr Mike Chiang. During these three days, you will learn the basic reading of scores other basics in music.

Date: 6 May 2008 (Tuesday)

Interview
There will be a short interview session for all new members.
Here are the various time slots that you might be allocated to:

- 2 - 2.30pm
- 4.30 - 6pm

Please do not worry about this interview session, you will not be required to play anything. The interview will only last about 5 minutes, it is just to confirm some of your details and to know more about you. ^_^

passing of a great mate

This day, we have lost a great mate, a great suona player, great logistics as well as a great friend who have brought endless joy and laughter to this orchestra.

Dear all, our beloved ' 蜡笔小新’ David Li, has passed away yesterday at around 11.45pm due to a severe car accident. His sudden death have brought many of us into the state of shock.

This day, we shall grieve for this great mate who have brought endless joy and laughter to us. This man, who have put in his most effort in playing a part as a NYPCO member and did us proud with his fabulous 'Long Teng Hu Yue' Suona Solo during AIMF.

Dearest David,

If you ever pass by here, we just want you to know that you are deeply loved and remembered by us! Your laughter and jokes will always remain in CO room, your music will remain in CO room and last of all, Your heart will always be with us, NYPCO! No matter where are you now, you will always be in our hearts!

The orchestra is deeply saddened by your passing, however we will be strong because we know, you will want us to be!! 我知道，你会希望我们乐团，上下团结一致，继续奏出感人动听的音乐。 Rest assure, we will not fail u.

Thank you for being my good comm member, Thank you for willing to lend a helping hand when i really need one. You will never failed to fulfill requests and lastly i just want you to know, I really miss you alot.

By the way, the Starcruise perf is a opening ceremony of some starcruise which have work closely with NYP for the annual poly forum. Thus, they have invited us for this opening ceremony.

Hi My Fellow Members,

Thank You for all the hard work put in for this Annual Concert 2008 - Musical Odyssey Of Love. It's been quite a hectic period that we have gone through, but I'm glad everyone did it!!

Peishi and I were really grateful for all your support and cooperation given during the rehearsals and practices, as well as the alumni who have returned to practice. This is part of the reason why this concert is a success. Of course another part was everyone's effort and the conductor's guidances. I'm glad we put up a good show.

We will be having more events in the future. Everyone take a well-deserve good rest now and work hard for ur studies before we are reunite again to form an even stronger orchestra then before (=

I have another serious matter which i want to remind all members:

Please do turn up for both sectional and combined practices for the subsequent days. It is very important that we have good attendance rate so that we can practice together. Unless those who have exception who are on attachment or sick. It is also crucial that we all put in effort in doing our part well such that we can put up a commendable performance for all to see. We NEED to have 100% attendance rate from all of us. Looking at the current situation, we are BELOW satisfactory.

Mr Chiang has put in his effort into this Orchestra, the only part that we can contribute is by doing well in each of our own part. Please motivate each other to come for practices. Don't we all want to put up a good performance so that we can have better opportunities in the future? Like going overseas.

The subsequent finalized repertoire will be out, and schedule will also be out soon. Please check your own timing against the schedule and plan your timing properly (=

Hi Fellow CO mates,

There are some issues that i need to bring forth attention to all of you. As we know, exams and debarring period is here, i understand that there are quite a number of you have gotten warning letters despite submitting all your excuse letters up.

I urge everyone to contact your PEM(personal mentor) who should be able to assist you. By right, the AIMF trip and other mayflower perfomance, and auditiorium performance should not affect your attendance because they are all valid reasons. Therefore, please double check clearly to ensure that none of you are in the debarment list.

If there are anymore of you who needs the approval letter that indicate you have been approved of going for AIMF, please msn me or call me. I will forward them in to your mails.

SINGAPORE: The Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra has clinched a gold award in the "Instrumental Category" at the 18th Australian International Music Festival held in Sydney.

This was the orchestra's first international foray.

According to Chris Gibbs, GM and Director of World Projects, Nanyang is the first and only team in the history of all their festivals to receive full marks.

The orchestra was also one of the three groups to be invited to perform at the Festival's closing ceremony at the Sydney Opera House. - CNA/yy

EVCO annual concert

Guys, once again EVCO's annual concert is back!

This time round it will be a action packed performance by the EVCO members who would bring pleasant melodies like Nan Dao and Yao Zu, majestic pieces like Long de Chuan Qi and Jiang Jun Ling, and none nevertheless the rhythmical seasons pieces; Chun, Xia, Qiu, Dong~! what a Oh My God songs EVCO will be playing and what are you waiting for!? grab the tickets while they are still available!

the concert will be conducted by Mr Hu Bing Xu on this 29 July, 5pm at Singapore Conference Hall. And your fellow co mates are also involved in this concert! if you are not sure who is involved, they are:

Hi Guys,

大家辛苦了，看来我们所付出的一切都是值得的。 =)
佩诗写了个英文版的ENTRY，那我就来写华文版的吧。哈哈！

那么多个月的努力，坚持，大家对音乐的热诚，终於拿到了我们都很渴望的金牌。相信大家都很开心吧。
一面金牌，并不代表结束，而是个开始，大家还是要继续努力向上，让我们的音乐更进一步=)
那现在呢就是大家努力读书，赶作业的时候了。休息就是为了走更长远的路。哈哈！

Hi all!!!

Congrats!!! All the hard works u all have put in have paid off =) Wee~

After working hard for so many months, it's time for us to take a short short break. Rest to go further yeah =) Section A will have break for around a week till Mr Chiang says resume. Once confirm i will inform the Sectional Leader to tell you all. Those who are sick pls make use of this break really take good care of yourselves.

Every ending marks a new begining. We still got a long long long way to go. Now we have Gold so should expect more performances to come too yeah? hahaha

To all AIMF/ CO members,

希望大家，不要因为昨天的一番话，而感到灰心，或者是失去动力。那些话，不是用来让大家灰心，而是要大家更团结在一起。这样我们才能很骄傲的跟大家说，我们是南洋理工华乐团。

大家，经过那么多事，从一开始，没人能给我明确的答案说他到底能参加这次的比赛，到人太多了，必须淘汰人，一直到现在，多十天我们就离开新加坡，出国比赛争取我们的目标。一路走来，大家都很辛苦,很累。这中间包括了种种的困难，挣扎。有的，一早本来就不想参加比赛，大家，担心学业，经济方面的问题等等。喜怒哀乐都尝过了，但是我们还是熬过来了。

静下来想想，我们都来到了这个阶段了。大家务必要更努力，加油做好我们的本分，这样大家才对得起自己。就是这一句话‘到底对得起自己吗”？

我不知道身为副团长的我还能为大家多做些什么，但是我知道，我也背负着大家对海之随想的感觉，的期望。所以，我只能说，我会努力，希望你们也不会放弃。我也希望我不会辜负大家所对我的期望，所对我的信心。

为了这次，就那么一次，我们就豁出去吧。！！！大家加油加油再加油！！
